Hotel News – Pipe Bursts Causing Guests to Evacuate

Last Monday evening, some 900 guests staying at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront were forced to evacuate the hotel after water flooded the lower level. A standpipe between the fourth and fifth floor burst after the rubber coupling gave way. The fire department spokesperson, Kevin Cartwright, said there was significant water damage on the bottom four floors where

the ballroom, many conference rooms and lobby were all located. All guest rooms were located above the fourth floor, which allowed guests to collect their belongings before relocating to other area hotels. The scene outside the 32-story hotel remained calm as guests boarded six MTA buses to be dispersed around the city. Cleanup was expected to start immediately after all guests evacuated and was said to last for a few days.
