10 Texting Acronyms We’ve Learned From Slack

10 texting acronyms

Over the last few weeks in the McConnell Marketing office, we’ve been testing Slack – basically a professional instant messenger platform for companies (believe it or not, hospitality marketing agencies like us can use an instant messenger). And with instant messaging threads, comes LOTS of shorthand typing. Can you guess the meaning of these ten acronyms we’ve learned while in Slack? Scroll to the bottom for the answers!

1. BRB

One of the OGs* (see what we did there) of the acronym/texting lingo world, BRB makes the perfect quasi-goodbye to friends.

2. LOL

The less-intense cousin of the “hahaha.” We hope by the year 2020 you know what LOL means.

3. JK

Commonly used when you mean something, but not really.

4. OFC

A simple phrase that usually means the same as “sure thing!”

5. NOTA

Your response when you’re not a fan of anything suggested.

6. WYM?

Use this when confused.

7. LMK

When you need a reply back.

8. IDTS

Synonym of nope, nada, no thanks.

9. ICYMI

This acronym usually prefaces a recap or explanation of something that happened.

10. IIRC

We didn’t believe this one was real when Steve first typed it, but lo and behold, it’s on Dictionary.com. Hint: You’d use this when trying to conjure a memory.
