Spring is a season of change and reflection—and at Second 
Harvest Food Bank, we are always evolving, adapting, and 
striving to make our work as impactful as possible each day. 
This season also marks an important transition. After 25 
years of dedicated service, Mike Iberis is retiring from his 
role as Executive Director and will transition to serve on the 
Food Bank’s Board of Directors. While his role is changing, 
our mission remains steadfast. Our day-to-day operations 
and our commitment to serving individuals and families 
facing hunger will not change.
We are incredibly grateful for Mike’s leadership and vision 
over the past two and a half decades. His impact on this 
organization and our community is lasting, and we look 
forward to building on the strong foundation he has created. 
As I step into this role, I am honored to continue working 
alongside our incredible network of partner agencies, 
volunteers, donors, and community organizations. Together, 
we will ensure that no one in the Mahoning Valley goes 
without food.
I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our volunteers 
and donors. Their generosity makes our work possible. April 
was Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we were proud to 
celebrate those who give their time so selflessly—but our 
appreciation continues year-round.
In times of uncertainty, Second Harvest remains a source 
of hope. For those experiencing financial hardship or food 
insecurity, please know that we are here for you. To those 
who support our mission, thank you for helping us be that 
light in our community.

25 YEARS OF TRANSFORMING SECOND 
HARVEST FOOD BANK
As Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley prepares for an important 
leadership transition, we take time to celebrate and honor the remarkable career
of Executive Director Mike Iberis, who retired on May 1, 2026 after 25 years of 
dedicated service.
When Mike first stepped into his role, the future of the food bank was uncertain. At 
the time, the organization was on the brink of closing, operating out of a small 
building on Youngstown’s South Side and serving just 80 partner agencies. Through 
his leadership and unwavering commitment to the community, Mike transformed 
Second Harvest into a highly impactful organization that now operates out of a 
60,000-square-foot facility along Salt Springs Road and partners with 160 agencies 
across Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties.
Today, Second Harvest distributes more than 
25,000 pounds of food each day. In 2025 alone, 
the food bank distributed 9.7 million pounds of 
food, providing more than 8 million meals to 
those in need. Thanks to the organization’s 
efficiency, every $1 donated helps provide five 
meals, a testament to the strong foundation 
Mike helped build.
Beyond growth in size and scale, Mike’s legacy 
is reflected in the programs and partnerships 
that have strengthened food access throughout 
the region. Under his leadership, the food bank launched a school pantry program, 
ensuring students have reliable access to food both during and after the school day. 
Of the 160 partner agencies served today, 40 are school pantries.
This edition covers the time period of January through April of 2026.
It is the policy of Second Harvest Food Bank to maintain the highest level of 
confidentiality with respect to donor information. We will not share donor names, 
addresses, or fund-related financial information with organizations outside of 
the Food Bank. From time to time, donor names may be listed in Food Bank 
publications, but only after written notification is provided. In all cases, donors are 
given the option of remaining anonymous.
